The Beautiful Music is a label in Canada that releases albums by fellow DC band Dot Dash. Before Twitter leaned into its vilest features I had struck up an online-friendship with Wally Salem, the fellow who runs TBM. He had shown enthusiasm for my old band and I asked him if he’d be interested in releasing my new-at-the-time solo record. He politely passed but mentioned that he was putting a tribute album together for Edward Ball and if I was interested in doing something for that he’d be keen to include it.

Edward Ball? Never heard of him. Looked him up, still hadn’t heard of him. Listened to a couple tracks and thought we could do this. The “we” in this case was this new project, The Leading End. Wally sent a list of potential songs and after a bunch of “meh” there was, nestled in there like a gold nugget, Love Is Blue. Listened to that and thought we could REALLY do THIS.

So here it is. Hopefully that tribute compilation will come out sometime in 2024, but here’s our contribution. I think it captures the spirit of the original while putting our twist on it. Lots of friends helped bring it to life and thank you to all of them for their talents. Thanks to Wally for telling us he loved it and it was exactly what he hoped for.
